Week ending 18.06.06

Inter-National football

World Cup fever has taken over Australia, and has highlighted the fact that this really is a country of immigrants.

If one was to apply the ‘Norman Tebitt rule of cricket’ then there are very few people who are Australians, in Australia.

In my office alone the loyalties are divided be between; England, Trinidad & Tobago, Italy, Poland, South Africa, and the USA. Of course if Australia is playing anyone but any of these teams, then the office is squarely behind Australia.

Even the names of the players in the Australian team, show their place of origin.

However it is true dedication to your nation’s team to stay up until 01.00am to finish watching a game, or get up at 02.00am to start watching a game. There are also a few people who are coming into work early after having got up at 05.00am to watch their nation’s games.

Caribbean BBC

The BBC have excelled themselves this week with the introduction of a Caribbean section to there website http://www.bbc.co.uk/caribbean/
